Deven Irby, daughter of Daryl and Constance Irby is a 2017 graduate of Matoaca High School. She is attending Virginia Commonwealth University and is pursuing a degree in nursing. At Matoaca, Deven was chapter president of the Health Occupations Students of America and was also a part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Team. She was a member of the National Honor Society and captain of the girls’ varsity basketball team. Deven’s community activities included volunteering at the Southside Health Education Foundation and being a greeter at her church. Deven has a wide range of interests. In addition to her interests in health and sports, she enjoys kayaking, cooking and jewelry making. Deven describes herself as a flexible person who enjoys learning and interacting with people. In fact, her experiences helping to care for her great grandmother inspired her decision to pursue a career in nursing.
