MMHMF Scholarship Recipient
JASMIN DUNSTON
2013 MMHMF Scholarship Recipient

Jasmin graduated with honors from Cosby High School, Midlothian, VA, in June. She was on the Distinguished Honor Roll, 9th through 12th grades. She is attending Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, where she is pursuing a course of study in Education.
Jasmin’s record of achievement while in high school is outstanding. She accomplished much. In reading her application, one discovers that she is an intelligent, hard working, introspective and a determined young lady. Two factors appear to have been key to her growth and development, her Mother and 4-H.
Jasmin wrote: “4-H stands for Head (managing, thinking); Heart (relating, caring); Hand (giving, working); and Health (being, living), and are the values that are mastered through fun and engaging programs. The program is designed for youth development in academics, leadership and life skills as well as creating the opportunities to take on challenging responsibilities and community service projects.” Jasmin was extensively involved in 4-H for four years and served as a teen counselor in the program.
Jasmin credits her Mom, Erline Dunston, for her involvement in 4-H, an organization that has helped Jasmin’s growth and development. She evidently saw the program as a means to help Jasmin develop necessary skills for success in life. From her writing, it is clear that her Mother understood the importance of parents taking an active role in the lives of children, including their education.
