Allyiah Barber, 2021 recipient of the Martha Mason Hill Memorial Foundation Scholarship

We congratulate ALLYIAH ! She graduated from Matoaca High School where she attained a 4.2 GPA. She will be attending Radford University, Radford, VA and plans to earn her undergraduate degree in nursing.

At Matoaca High, she was a member and the Co-Captain of the Dance Team (2015-2021), and belonged to the school choir, French Club (2017-2020), the Red Cross Club (2018-2020) and was Secretary of Archonettes/Zeta Beta Sorority (2015-2017). Allyiah indicated that her community activities included the Hermitage Nursing Home (2018-2020) and Christianity Youth Program (2015-2020).

Allyiah says she loves to sing and dance and be involved in group activities. Criminal law is of particular interest to her. Of particular note and laudable was Allyiah’s ability to overcome obstacles that confronted her growing up that could have very well derailed her many accomplishments during her high school years! She managed to turn some significant negative experiences into learning ones. She credits them as helping her growth and development to become a successful student, independent and well organized with good time management skills. Realizing the significance of having overcome so much in her young life, she vows to never give up when facing difficulties and to keep pushing no matter what! She takes great pride in herself and everything she has accomplished, as well she should! Possessing these skills, abilities and traits will certainly serve her well in her future endeavors.
