Andrea Lynn Stith appointed Associate Director for Research Development, Science and Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB)

ANDREA LYNN STITH - In June of 2017, the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), appointed Andrea the Associate Director for Research Development, Science and Engineering. Prior, she was the Assistant Director for Interdisciplinary Education, BioFrontiers Institute, University of Colorado, Boulder (UCB) for five years. She was Co-Chair of the UCB Chancellor's committee on race and ethnicity. Before joining the BioFrontiers Institute, Andrea spent several years working in China and Germany. She was a Research Fellow at the Graduate School of Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China for two years; a Guest Researcher (Humboldt Fellow), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Berlin, Germany, and a Guest Researcher (Humboldt Fellow) Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, Germany.

Upon completion of her undergraduate study at the University of Delaware in physics and graduate study in biophysics at the University of Virginia, Andrea’s work experience was in the DC area. She was Program Officer at Howard Hughes Medical Institute; Policy Analyst for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB); and a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation. She was also a higher education free-lance consultant.

In February of 2017, Andrea was appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Friends of the Alexander von Humbodlt Foundation (AvHF). The Humboldt Foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from around the world and Germany. A former Humboldt Fellow, she is currently a member of the Humboldt Alumni Council that develops and supports activities that increase the intellectual and social interactions among Humboldtians in the United States. Andrea is a member of the Leadership enver Class of 2015, Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation. She is a MMHMF advisor, the daughter of James and Alberta Stith and the granddaughter of Martha Mason
