This Teacher Appreciation Day, we recognize Dr. James H. Stith for his groundbreaking contributions to education and leadership. In 1976, Dr. Stith became the first African American to earn tenure as a professor at West Point. As a physicist and educator, he brought excellence, integrity, and vision to every classroom he entered.
His presence at the academy wasn’t just historic—it was transformative. Through his work, he expanded access, inspired generations, and showed what’s possible when knowledge meets purpose.
Thank you, Dr. Stith, for your lasting impact on West Point and beyond.
