ANAIYA WINFIELD

Old Dominion University

Exercise Science

Anaiya is an honors graduate of Matoaca High School and is pursuing a degree in exercise science at Old Dominion University. At Matoaca High she was President/Founder Minorities in Powe; member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club (the goal is to provide members with opportunities to serve, build character, and develop leadership. Members learn how to lead and stand for what’s right through service and volunteerism); DECA (an organization that gives high school students hands-on experience in marketing, business, and entrepreneurship; and the National Spanish Honor Society.+

She has been a volunteer at Bubble Run, her church and a food bank in her community.

When she was a child, she loved hanging out with my mother and grandmother who both worked in the geriatric healthcare field. After hearing their stories and how much they loved working with older patients she began doing research. Physical Therapy sounded interesting to her as a way to provide a good quality of life for the elderly. During her junior year, she attended Chesterfield Technical Center for physical therapy. While completing this program, she obtained a Certified Physical Therapy Aide License, Workplace Readiness, and CPR certificates. She was grateful for having the opportunity because it helped her determine exactly what field of student she wanted to pursue in college.
