ALEASIA MARIE RICHARDSON
2014 MMHMF Scholarship Recipient

Aleasia graduated with honors from James River High School, Midlothian, VA, in June 2014. She maintained a 3.5 or higher GPA, remaining on the Distinguished Dean’s List for four consecutive years at James River High.  She is attending Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, where she is pursuing a course of study in nursing.

As long as she can remember, Aleasia has loved and has wanted to work with children.  She began babysitting for members of her family at a young age and for children in the neighborhood when she was older.  She didn’t know specifically what, but she always knew she wanted a career in a field that worked with children.  When her mom, a geriatric nurse, would ask what she wanted to study in college, Aleasia’s response would be: “something with children.”

In high school, she found enjoyment in science. Enrolling in anatomy and physiology, she became interested in the subject. She then developed a passion for the human body and how it functions. Her interest in the human body and watching her mother care for patients as a registered nurse, Aleasia became interested in the profession.  She wanted to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.  She plans to attain a bachelor’s degree in nursing and subsequently a master’s degree.
