Guest Speaker: JAMES F. LANE ED.D.

Superintendent, Chesterfield County, VA Public Schools

James Lane began working as the Superintendent of one of the largest 100 school divisions in the nation, on July 1, 2016. Prior to serving in Chesterfield, he was superintendent of Goochland County Public Schools, where he collaborated with the Goochland community to create an innovative strategic plan focused on maximizing the potential of every student by personalizing the learning experience and infusing technology for every student to allow for anywhere, anytime learning. Lane has been recognized by the White House for his innovative instructional programs and his previous district was recently awarded a national recognition with the Flashlight Award for District Data Use for the district's work in creating a balanced and authentic assessment system. Dr. Lane was also recognized by Style Magazine as one of the Top 40 Under 40 in the Richmond region and was selected by the Richmond Technology Council as the Education Innovator of the Year in 2016. The National School Public Relations Association recognized Dr. Lane as a national Superintendent to Watch at their conference in July 2016. Lane holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of School Administration degree from North Carolina State University, and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Virginia. Dr. Lane has moved to Chesterfield with his wife and two children.
